In light of our proximity to Christmas, I've composed a true, and hopefully funny, song about the Twelve Days of Writer Angst. Sing along with me!
I'll start from the end and make my way to the beginning...
On the twelfth day of Writer Angst, my nemesis gave to me:
12 rejection letters
11 cents an hour
10 critiquers slashing
9 books remaindered
8 speaker uninvitations
7 dismal sales reports
6 editors passing
5 hard drive crashes
4 work for frees
3 dollar royalty
2 angry blog replies
and a career that is crazy for me!
(Please feel free to edit or add to my "brilliance" here!)
You nailed it, girl!
Fa, la, la, la, la, la, ouch, ouch, ouch.
Very clever!

Funny. Yet comforting to know we all wear the same kinds of shoes.

Funny, but sadly all too true. But mostly just funny.

Great song, Marzipan. However, if you only got two angry blog replies, you're probably not being controversial enough. This may be the key to your career problems in a nutshell. People love to be both right and indignant. It gives them a raison d'etre. Ratchet up the controversy, and I think you'll see a surprising shift in these numbers for next year's song.
You're welcome.
Love, J.

Funny and sadly quite accurate! I just stumbled on this older blog post of yours, Mary! And I'm still chuckling--even as I write.
